New Research Shows the Importance of Personal Contact for Prospective U.S. and Canadian Applicants to Graduate School
London (PRWEB) July 25, 2007 -- New research shows the importance of personal contact for prospective US and Canadian applicants to graduate school
Prospective US and Canadian applicants to PhD programs (http://www.topuniversities.com/gradschool/worldgradschooltour/) and Masters degrees (http://www.topuniversities.com/gradschool/worldgradschooltour/) favour face-to-face contact with experts more than their European, Asian or Latin American counterparts, according to new research from topgraduate.com (http://www.topuniversities.com/gradschool/worldgradschooltour/) and the QS Word Grad School Tour, the world's largest series of international graduate school education fairs (http://www.topuniversities.com/gradschool/worldgradschooltour/).
The QS Applicants Research 2007, a survey conducted annually amongst more than 4,000 prospective graduate school students in 25 countries, reveals that US and Canadian students regard the attendance of education fairs, meetings with graduate school admissions counsellors and interviews with alumni as far more important than any other group of students. 100% of all US and Canadian students polled found attendance at an education fair, where future graduate students meet their potential graduate schools and other top universities, as beneficial.
The survey goes on to suggest that after reference to a school's website, US and Canadian students regard the more personal approach in preparing for their graduate school program as far more beneficial than the use of Internet search engines like Google, Yahoo and Altavista.
The QS World Grad School Tour will visit New York (September 16), Boston (September 20) and Toronto (September 23) and bring with it more than 40 US and international graduate schools, including Columbia, UCSD, Imperial College London, St Andrews University, Kings College London, the University of Melbourne and Bocconi and others from Spain, Italy, Malaysia and The Netherlands.
Peter MacDonald, Director of the QS World Grad School Tour comments: "US graduate students invest vast amounts of time and money in their Masters or PhD programs and it makes sense that they want this significant decision confirmed by some element of human contact. Our expert admissions panels at each event this fall are designed to bring the student in direct contact with staff that will make decisions on their applications."
Tim Rogers, International Education Consultant & author of The QS Applicant Research 2007 comments: "The evidence suggests that students may well shortlist one school over another based on their web research, but they will put as much weight on personal contact, meeting and speaking to a school representative or an alumni, before they make their final decision."
