Cambridge University Press Selects WANdisco to Connect Developers in UK and Philippines

Cambridge, UK and San Ramon, CA (PRWEB) August 23, 2007 -- Cambridge University Press, founded in 1534, the world's oldest printer and publisher, as well as one of the world's largest academic publishers, and WANdisco, a leading provider of distributed software development solutions, today announced that Cambridge has selected WANdisco for CVS to support their globally distributed software development efforts.

Cambridge University Press has software developers at two sites in the United Kingdom and Philippines. Prior to implementing WANdisco for CVS, poor WAN performance between these sites had become a significant drag on developer productivity.

"It often took a day or more for developers in Manila to checkout large files from our server in the UK. Checkins weren't much better. When the network went down, the whole process had to be restarted," said Nick Louch, Technical Architect, Information and Publishing Services.

When Cambridge University Press implemented WANdisco, they found that checkins and checkouts of large files that used to take a day or more over the WAN now complete at LAN-speed in a matter of minutes, or in some cases seconds. At the same time, Cambridge University Press' servers in the UK and Philippines are kept in sync in real-time. None of the other multi-site development solutions Cambridge University Press evaluated came close to delivering this level of performance.

Now, everything gets done at LAN-speed, and our CVS repositories stay in sync. Problems are detected earlier, there is less QA and rework needed than we had before, and development cycle times have been reduced" said Louch.
