Capella University Offers New Early Childhood Education Specialization Within its MS in Education Online Degree Program

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) October 31, 2007 -- Capella University (www.capella.edu), an accredited*, fully online university based in Minneapolis, announced today that it is offering a new Early Childhood Education specialization within its Master of Science in Education online degree program. Lead teachers in state-funded pre-kindergarten programs are required to have specialized training in early childhood education in 28 states, according to the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER).

There's a growing recognition that early childhood education can have a long-term impact on students' achievement throughout their education. The U.S. Department of Education's "No Child Left Behind" Web site notes that "children who enter school with language skills and pre-reading skills?are more likely to learn to read well in the early grades and succeed in later years" and cites research that shows that "most reading problems faced by adolescents and adults are the result of problems that could have been prevented through good instruction in their early childhood years."

"Teacher preparation is critical to providing that 'good instruction,'" said Phil Corkill, PhD, faculty director for K-12 Program Development and Delivery in Capella's School of Education. "Our new Early Childhood Education specialization is designed for licensed teachers who have a passion for education at the early stages of development and want to pursue specialized preparation in that area. It complements our existing portfolio of education specializations, which includes a variety of K-12 specific specializations for both teachers and administrators, as well as specializations focused on higher education careers."

Capella is now accepting enrollment applications for its MS in Education, Early Childhood Education specialization. For more information, please call 1.888.CAPELLA (227.3552), option 3, or e-mail info(at)capella.edu.

Review of this specialization is pending in AZ, FL, KY, OH, SC, and WA. Contact an enrollment counselor for additional information.

Admission to the Early Childhood Education specialization requires learners to complete and submit the Capella University School of Education Certification of Teacher Licensure form located at www.capella.edu/aspscripts/schools/TeacherLicensure.pdf.

State regulations vary regarding course requirements for professional licensure. For assistance with state-mandated course requirements for licensure, contact the appropriate school representative.

Capella University cannot guarantee licensure. This program is intended to prepare learners for the state's licensure exam. Attainment of state license is the learner's responsibility. Each learner must determine the requirements of each state in which he/she seeks to be licensed and is responsible for compliance with those requirements.

Prospective Washington state learners are advised to contact the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction at 360-725-6320 or profed@ospi.wednet.edu to determine whether this education program is approved for teacher certification or endorsements in Washington state. Additionally, teachers are advised to contact their individual school district as to whether this program may qualify for salary advancement.

Good Parenting Advice - Are You Giving Your Child The Edge At School?
Today the pressure to succeed at school begins even earlier than ever. Children in kindergarten and first grade are held to a standard of success that their parents never had to worry about. While in the past those first few years of schooling were pressure free and simply intended to introduce children to formal education, today children are tested on their knowledge and ability within the first weeks of kindergarten and that testing continues throughout the rest of their public school education. This places an enormous pressure on young children and yet many parents are not doing everything they can to give their child the edge and help them succeed at school. Giving your child the edge does not mean hiring a tutor, buying an expensive ed...

The Road to the Ideal Driving School
With today?s youth being involved in car misdemeanors like over speeding to fatal accidents rooted from driving under the influence (be it being drunk or stoned), truly handing a car key to a hormonally charged teenager is a frightening picture. A friend of mine from New Jersey enrolled in one of the finest Morris County driving schools, though it was only after three months that she was allowed to drive the car alone. Speaking of Jersey, this state has strict driving laws. A local (or any other neophyte behind the wheel) may think that having a car would give him freedom, true. But with that comes great responsibility. Proper driving education starts with the parents on how they?ll teach their children or how they?ll pick the instructors t...
