The Top 25 Hottest Tickets in College Football Week 15
Austin, Texas (PRWEB) November 14, 2007 -- As the seasons change, college football rivalry games are upon us. In the coming weeks some of the biggest matchups in college football will be played, including; Ohio State versus Michigan, Florida versus Florida, Oregon versus Oregon State (aka: "The Civil War") and Army versus Navy. What is the hottest rivalry game right now? It's the Kansas Jayhawks versus the Missouri Tigers. The Jayhawks and Tigers find themselves both in the top 5 of the polls for the first time in decades. These two upstarts are set to square off in Arrowhead Stadium on November 24th, 2007.
The Kansas and Missouri game currently ranks 5th on the TicketCity list of hottest college football games. After both teams won this past weekend, the average price per ticket shot up from $239.00 last week to $379.00 today. The game moved from #19 on the list to #5.
"Kansas versus Mizzou is a huge game right now," says Rafael Rivas, Vice President of Sales at TicketCity. "The demand for that game is higher than it's ever been for us. If neither team falters this weekend, that game will decide which team will represent the North (Division) in the Big 12 Championship. And the winner will also have a shot at making it into the BCS National Championship Game. This is such a big game that is to both programs."
CollegeFootballNews.com ranks the top 10 college football rivalries as: 1) Ohio State vs Michigan, 2) Miami vs Florida State, 3) Alabama vs Auburn, 4) Army vs Navy, 5) Oklahoma vs Texas, 6) Notre Dame vs USC, 7) Florida vs Georgia, 8) UCLA vs USC, 9) Florida vs Florida State, and 10) California vs Stanford. Half of those games will be played in the next two weeks, and all of them are ranked in the top 25 hottest games by TicketCity.
Demand is high for tickets for the Auburn versus Alabama game, also known as "The Iron Bowl". The average ticket price jumped up $50, even after both teams lost last weekend. The cause due to what Rivas calls the "Saban effect." Prices are also rising on the Army Navy game and for the Civil War; which could be Oregon's last roadblock on the way to the BCS Championship Game.
Other college rivalry games that are garnering more interest from ticket buyers are Texas A&M versus Texas and Oklahoma versus Oklahoma State. Says Rivas, "The A&M game could decide whether Texas gets an invite to a BCS bowl game. And the Bedlam Series should be a great game, since both OU and Oklahoma State have great teams. Fans are going to turn out for both of those games."
While demand for some rivalry games are increasing, the opposite is happening to ticket prices for certain games. Prices on the Ohio State versus Michigan game fell almost $200 per ticket, after both teams were upset last weekend. And South Carolina versus Clemson prices dropped from $345.00 last week, to $277.00 this week, after the Gamecocks got routed by Florida.
"The prices on Ohio State Michigan have been bouncing around all year," says Randy Cohen, CEO of TicketCity. "They started out very high in August based on the hype from last season, then dipped when Michigan dropped their first two games. But they'd been rising over the past two months, until last weekend. Now the price is as low as it's been in two years, so it's a great chance for fans to see this legendary game."
Regarding the slumping prices for a couple of games, Cohen states, "That's how this business works. It's all based on supply and demand. And every year there are some games where prices fall more than expected, just like there are those games that surprise everyone in their demand. Like Kansas Mizzou, that's a great story for both of those schools and should be a heck of a game in KC."
TicketCity releases this week's list of the top 25 hottest games of 2007 based on average ticket price. The list was accumulated by compiling a majority of the available tickets on the secondary market throughout the entire country.
