The University of Richmond is a private, liberal arts university occupying 350 suburban acres on the western edge of the city of Richmond, Virginia. There is a 10 acre lake and the majority of buildings are a traditional Collegiate Gothic style built around open grass areas. Interestingly, only around 15 admittance rate (for the class of 2011) and offers a rigorous academic program including core requirements in subjects such as writing and foreign language. After completing the required core classes, students can choose from 55 majors, 42 minors, and 12 concentrations. They also have the option to participate in hands on research by taking research based courses, choosing an independent study, and working with faculty. The university also offers students the chance to study abroad. Seventy percent of students choose to take advantage of this option, selecting from 70 study abroad programs in 40 countries.
