Southern University Twins Subjects of Documentary Project

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) November 29, 2007 -- Southern University seniors, Raeven and RaeAna Hall, have been selected as the subjects of a year-long documentary project that uses multimedia techniques to tell a story of two women striving to define their lives on their own terms. Titled the "Rae Twins Project," the documentary series has already produced three mini-books around themes such as their final homecoming, Street Scenes and Groovin' on a Sunday Afternoon. Two multi-media shows featuring Raeven and RaeAna have been completed.

The Rae Twins project was the brainchild of John Posey, CEO of BSPIN Media Group who was approached by George Ely to do a feature piece on Raeven and RaeAna to serve as a way to help them get exposure and get them noticed by talent agencies.

"I received an email from George in late July. He was concerned that Raeven and RaeAna hadn't received recognition for their years of commitment to the "Dancing Dolls" program," said BSPIN Media Group CEO, John R. Posey. "I had shot the twins extensively throughout their careers and had a comfort zone with them. After some reflection, I thought we would create a series of projects designed to brand the twins and serve as a way to help them transition to the world of entertainment.

What I didn't know was how extensive their dance and music training were before coming to Southern. Each week we seem to learn new things about the Rae Twins. Raeven played in the Rae Twins-2.

A&T band in the movie "Drum Line" and plays the trumpet and French horn. RaeAna plays the clarinet. Both of the Rae Twins have been instructors in Usher's Dance Camp and they are talented singers. What I find amazing is that they are incredibly grounded and humble."

The documentary project has had an impact on the Hall Twins explained Raeven, "I have learned that there are so many people willing to give to young people like RaeAna and I. We have been able to do something we love (dance) and show the world who we are as women. It's been a lot of work and we've learned so much about how marketing, photography and business operate working with Mr. Posey. We appreciate all that he has done to help us."

The Rae Twins come from a line of dancers. Their mother Cathy was a Future Shock Dancer for James Brown in the 1970s and their brother Rae performed with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

George and April Ely's daughter, Kaira "Kiki" Ely mentored Raeven and RaeAna as their dance sponsor at Southwest High School in DeKalb County. The twins decided they wanted to be Dancing Dolls when they saw a performance tape Kiki gave them. Kiki is a former Dancing Doll and dances professionally. She recently danced with Fergie at the American Music Awards and toured with Christina Aguilera. Kaira sent Southern University legend Dr. Isaac Greggs a tape of the Rae Twins and he offered them a partial scholarship to join his famed dance auxiliary.

The Dancing Dolls sponsor, Rose Roche' has nothing but praise for Raeven and RaeAna, "The twins have always helped out and done whatever was needed with the Dolls. We've enjoyed having them at Southern University and wish them well in their future endeavors."

The Rae Twins have been selected by their Band Director, Lawrence Jackson, to performed special pre-game dance to Beyonce's song "One Night Only," from the movie "Dream Girls," at the 2007 Bayou Classic. The dance was choreographed by Jonas Vanderbuilt. The music was written and arranged by Southern University Associate Band Director, Carnell Knighten.

The twins are involved in location selection for photo shoots, review all print materials, as well as offer ideas and direction of photos shoots, photo selection and video.

"One of my goals with this project was to help Raeven and RaeAna learn about creating content and the business side of entertainment and media," added Posey. They are partners in this collaboration and I want their input. I believe young people perform up to expectations. The twins haven't let me down yet This is a project that tells the stories of two women, defining themselves for themselves."

Future photo essay books will focus on Bayou Classic weekend and their four-year careers as Dancing Dolls. BSPIN Media Group also has developed a series of marketing postcards, ad slicks and other collateral materials to promote the Hall Twins, including a special magazine supplement. Verizon and Consumer Insights and Marketing have signed up for ads in the special edition. The supplement will be launched at the 2008 Honda Battle of the Bands in their hometown of Atlanta.

A mini-documentary video is planned for 2008. For more information or to schedule an interview with Raeven and RaeAna, contact John or Margo Posey at 214-929-8573 or 214-629-7249.
