The Noob School Releases Mining Guide to Ease World of Warcraft's Economic Problems

Is the fate of one of World of Warcraft's most popular and important professions in jeopardy of being modified or worse yet, removed from the game? With the addition of the Burning Crusade Expansion (2007) Blizzard unleashed yet another profession that relies heavily on Mining and another round of economical strains on the World of Warcraft economy. There are now a total of three professions (Jewelcrafting, Engineering, and Blacksmithing) that depend solely on Mining causing auction house prices to soar and mineral gathering competitiveness to reach a new high. Mining has catapulted itself to the top of the list for trained professions among WoW players, topping even the main professions, such as, Jewelcrafting and Leatherworking, leaving some players wondering "Is Mining working as intended?"

One player stated, "I'm not really sure what Blizzard's plans are to fix Mining, but I have been a long time miner in WoW and since the last expansion, I am unable to gather minerals efficiently because I usually pass a lot of miners who are looking for the same veins and deposits I am. Sometimes I have to login late at night when I should be sleeping just to get minerals to level my Blacksmithing."

Another added, "Since the expansion I am not only having a hard time gathering minerals but the auction house prices are usually high and it's hard to find enough minerals on the auction house because the auction house farmers are continuously buying and reselling the minerals I need."

Will these issues cause Blizzard to remove the Mining profession altogether? Chances are that Mining will never be entirely removed from the game because of the nature of Blacksmithing and the supplies it requires. However, Mining could be easily replaced by other gathering professions for Jewelcrafting and Engineering, but the exact specifics as to an actual replacement for Mining for these professions does not exist beyond speculation.

Some theorize that Engineers would have to train a profession called "Scrapping" in which characters would be able to loot engineering specific crafting supplies off of mobs and other rubble found throughout zones.

There is also speculation that Jewelcrafting would require a similar gathering profession. Characters would have to train a profession called "Gem Finding" which would give them the ability to search for gems and settings on the corpses of humanoids. This ability would also also allow characters to find gem deposits and precious metal deposits around the world.
