Meharry Medical College Presents Symposium: 'Conquering Cervical Cancer One Generation at a Time'

(PRWEB) January 22, 2008 -- Meharry Medical College's Department of Internal Medicine, Center for Women?s Health Research and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology presents an Interdisciplinary Public Health Symposium ?Conquering Cervical Cancer One Generation at a Time?. The symposium will focus on the risk factors, prevention methods and the lack of treatment for the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). The symposium is divided into two sessions: The Scientific Session and the Community/Plenary Session. The Scientific Session will be moderated by Stephanie B. Coursey Bailey, M.D., Chief Office of Public Health Practice Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. Eileen Dunne, M.D., Epidemiology Surveillance Branch of the CDC will give an ?Overview of HPV and Cervical Cancer? and Dr. Dineo Khabele, M.D. director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology & Women?s Cancer Research Laboratory at Meharry Medical College will lecture on the ?Breakthroughs and Barriers in Cervical Cancer?. The Community/Plenary Session will consist of the ?HPV & Adolescent Health? lead by Susanne Tropez-Sims, M.D. associate dean, ?Cultural Considerations for HPV Prevention in the Primary Care Setting? lead by Gerard ShuTangyie, M.D., medical director, SASH Healthcare, Inc., ?HPV Vaccine ? A Plague Diverted? lead by Stephanie Bailey, M.D.
