St. Charles High School Uses Controversial Award-Winning Movie for Fundraiser
St. Charles, MO (PRWEB) January 29, 2008 -- The St. Charles High School's Drama Department is raising production and theater renovation funds with the help of the controversial movie Heart of the Beholder. Heart of the Beholder has won more Best Feature Film awards on the independent film festival circuit than any other indie movie ever, but distributors are afraid that it is too controversial for the general public.
Heart of the Beholder is based on the true story of a young couple chasing the American Dream by risking their life savings and opening the very first videocassette movie rental business in St. Charles, MO. (a suburb of St. Louis). They lost their multi-million dollar chain of video stores, their home, and almost their lives fighting the National Federation for Decency over the video rental of Martin Scorsese's controversial movie, The Last Temptation of Christ.
Beholder Productions' Executive Producer Darlene Lieblich, a veteran network television executive and former Daytime Emmy chairman, says "People claim our movie trashes Christians because they haven't seen it. Our movie does not trash people of faith. It is about the abuse of power - both religious and political. That's why our second Best Feature Film award came from an all Bible-Belt Christian audience in Kentucky."
Even though Heart of the Beholder has not been picked up for distribution, the Producers have built a grassroots online marketing campaign with DVD quality downloads of their movie both with and without Producer's commentary, online sales of their Special Collector's Edition DVD, as well as the free viewing of their movie as serialized short videos on their Metacafe.com Heart of the Beholder Web Theater (http://www.metacafe.com/channels/DarleneLieblich)
The Writer/Director, Ken Tipton, along with cast and crew members Avis Taylor, Larry Ruebling, and Patrick Kiernan are all former St. Charles High School students who got their start in the entertainment industry on the stage at SCHS. When Joseph Hosea, the St. Charles High School's Drama Department head let it be known that their school productions, equipment, and theater were in dire need of renovation, Executive Producer Darlene Lieblich offered a promotion to raise funding using Heart of the Beholder.
The fundraising campaign will run from Feb. 1 to Feb. 29, 2008. 50% of all Heart of the Beholder online marketing profit during the promotional period will be donated toward the $354,500 renovation budget needed by the St. Charles High School Drama Department. More information about the fundraiser can be found at this link: SCHS Drama Department Fundraiser (http://www.Beholder.com/SCHS)
Free Screening - There will be a free screening of Heart of the Beholder on Saturday Feb. 2 at the St. Charles Wehrenberg Stadium 18. The screening is free to anyone but seating is limited. Doors open at 8:45 and the screening will start at 9:45 a.m. followed by a question and answer session with the Writer/Director and Executive Producer.
Does your group need to raise funding? Any group, organization, school, etc. that has at least 1,000 participants who are casual Internet users can be considered for our fundraising promotion. Contact Darlene Lieblich for more information.
