Child Inventor Hopes Frogs Invade School Cafeterias
Simpsonville, SC (PRWEB) June 10, 2008 -- John Savage is tired of trash, and he is doing something about it. The eleven year old inventor was recently named a national finalist in "The Going Green Challenge," sponsored by The Weather Channel and the By Kids For Kids, Corporation. The contest encouraged young people to develop new ideas for improving the environment. "My school doesn't recycle lunch trash," John said. "The Recycle Frog is my idea to help kids learn how to recycle."
The Recycle Frog is a large plastic recycling bin that is shaped like a frog. The bin would be placed inside school cafeterias nationwide, to encourage kids to recycle their lunch trash. John said he chose a frog design because frogs are "green, friendly and fun to watch."
"Kids throw away a lot of wrappers, cans and paper each day during school lunch," John said. "The Recycle Frog would be a fun way to get kids in the habit of recycling." John also suggested that schools could use any money earned from their recycling efforts, to help fund after school programs.
John, an avid inventor, frequently contributes ideas for innovation contests. John is already working on his next invention idea: a water balloon gun made from recycled materials. "I used old soda bottles, paper tubes and duct tape to make my prototype," he said. Regarding his hopes for The Recycle Frog, John said, "I am hoping they will be in school cafeterias all across America."
