New Book Prepares High School Grads for College Life
Portland, ME (PRWEB) May 17, 2006 -- The cap and gown are ordered and the announcements are sent, now soon-to-be high school graduates can’t stop thinking about what college life will really be like. But let’s face it: many students are more interested in learning about dorm life and parties than the school library. A new book, Dorm Life and the College Experience (What you REALLY Learn At School) is a friend’s guide to college life outside of the classroom.
This book is a nostalgic look at college, comprised of the stories and experiences of former and current students. It covers everything from getting along with your new roommate to surviving on pizza. An easy read, it is sure to entertain with a mixture of quotes, stories, recipes, games, and even a section of Ramen Noodle Recipes for the inevitable late nights. The material answers many questions students may not want to ask.
“Some of the most important things you need to know about college are not covered in freshmen orientation,” says Rick Cochrane, author of Dorm Life and the College Experience (What you REALLY Learn At School). “Most of us had to learn the hard way, by trial and error, but this book is a great resource for students who can learn from the experiences of others.”
Balancing a checkbook and doing the laundry are not prerequisites for college, and these are skills many college freshmen lack as they move away from home for the first time. The book provides insight on topics such as:
1.
Credit card debt. The credit card companies will throw undeserved credit at you, and it doesn't take any time at all to be way over your head.
2.
Your internal voice. Untold heartache and regret can be avoided by listening to that internal alarm.
3.
Choosing friends. Your friends will inevitably be major influencers on your life, and you want to choose your close allies wisely.
Even through the heartache and hard times, they don’t call it the “best 4-6 years of your life” for nothing.
This book is the high school graduation gift incoming freshmen will be thankful they read this summer.
