New Medical Exam Prep Course Increases Odds of Getting into Med School through Preparation

(PRWeb) December 8, 2006 -- The Medical College Admissions Test, or MCAT, is a prerequisite for getting into med school at most North American institutions. But, most young people wishing to go into the medical profession don't intuitively know, nor have they been taught, how to prepare for the MCAT.

Stewart University, based in San Jose, Calif., is offering a new, comprehensive and detailed preparatory course for medical school applicants taking the MCAT. The first prep course at Stewart University commences in January 2007, and includes more than 336 hours of live lecture instruction covering subjects students will encounter while taking the MCAT, along with practice exams to prepare for the MCAT.

According to Chancellor William B. Stewart, III, the university's 14-week program increases prospective students' odds of getting into medical school in the U.S. and Canada by helping them dramatically increase their MCAT scores.

"Students are able to take the MCAT test as many times as they like beginning in January 2007," according to the MCAT website. "Since more than half of all medical school applicants take some MCAT test prep course, but less than half of all medical school applicants are accepted to medical school in the U.S. -- the best way to improve your chances of admission in a limited period of time is to improve your MCAT scores." Stewart said. Stewart also points out that, "If I had taken this course, I could have saved 3 years of my life waiting to get into medical school."

Unlike the Stanley Kaplan course and the Princeton Review, who have enjoyed little competition in the MCAT test prep industry for decades, Stewart University only hires instructors who have Ph.D. degrees. Biographical information on each instructor, along with a downloadable university brochure is available on the Stewart University Web site. Soon brief Quicktime movies of each instructor and the instructional sites will be posted on the StewartMed.org website as well.

Tuition and fees for the Stewart University MCAT Test Prep and Review course is compared against its competitors in a chart on the payment page of the website. Results show Stewart University's course is the least expensive course at only $11.16 per instructional hour as compared to the pricier Stanley Kaplan course and the Princeton Review course. The Stewart University course is just $5,000, and includes 24 to 40 hours of live instruction. Students who enroll for the semester starting in January can repeat the course in May 2007 if they choose, at no charge.
